FAQs (Frequently asked questions)
a) What are your 1st time pass rates like?
The honest answer: Quite high at Craigavon (83%), Lisburn (77%) and Newry (72%) given that the UK and NI average is 42% for girls and 46% for boys (most other Instructors will of course quote you 100% pass rate for both genders and all Test Centres!).
b) How long and how much will it take me to pass the test?
Ans: Depends very much on the individual’s own prior experience of driving (tractor boys and girls usually go through quite quickly!), the individual’s rate of learning/speed of uptake, physical coordination and access to private practice in between lessons.
Without prior experience and private practice, the average amount of lessons to learn the basics, master the manoeuvres, handle heavy traffic and memorise the Test Routes to pass competence level is about 25 lessons or 6 months driving (at 1 lesson per week) which in terms of money can be quite expensive especially if you go to another Driving School!
v Look at the comparative rates:
With auto-academy at package rates (see earlier) 25 lessons cost £450 (25 x £18) while other driving schools charging £25 per lesson can cost up to £625 (25 x 25), that’s a saving of £175 over 25 lessons! Worth thinking about isn’t it!!!
c) How much is the Hire of the Car on Test Day?
Time for the use of the car only! This usually involves a 2hrs warm up lesson immediately before the Test, short post mortem after and transport Time back and forward from the Test Centre (approx 3hrs and 30 mins in all or £70 approx. at current rates).
